About The Position

Perform the surveillance necessary to prevent accidents by administering policies, procedures, rules, and regulations governing the conduct of patrons using the pool and perform rescues and first aid necessary for the preservation of life in a team setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate of Grade 10.
  • Minimum age requirement is 15 years of age.
  • Current National Lifeguard Pool certificate
  • Current Standard First Aid, CPR and/or AED certificates
  • Current Oxygen Therapy or LSS Airway Management certificate
  • AODA Accessibility/IASR Training
  • Knowledge of City of Ottawa and Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services departmental policies, guidelines and directives
  • Knowledge of City of Ottawa emergency response procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
  • Able to handle the stress of an emergency situation
  • Excellent public relations skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Reliable
  • English oral, reading, and writing competencies (for some positions)
  • French oral, reading, and writing competencies (for some positions)
  • Bilingual competencies (for some positions)
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3) or Criminal Record and Judicial Matters (Level 2) check for those under 18.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Lifesaving Instructor certificate is an asset
