About The Position

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is an agency where innovation thrives, ideas flourish, and passion drives us to new heights of excellence. Reporting to the Ministry of the Attorney General, the AGCO is responsible for regulating Ontario’s vibrant alcohol, gaming, horse racing, and private retail cannabis sectors in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.

Requirements

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and a strong customer service focus.
  • Good knowledge of the Rules of Standardbred Racing, the Rules of Thoroughbred Racing, the Horse Racing Licence Act, 2015 and its regulations, and the Criminal Code of Canada, as well as the AGCO’s Rules of Racing.
  • Demonstrated sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities and make decisions in a fast-paced regulatory environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint), with the ability to quickly learn new systems and AGCO-specific licensing platforms.
  • Knowledge of licensing procedures, process manuals, and racetrack operational processes.
  • Awareness of health and safety practices in a racetrack or live animal environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive and personal information.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and statutory holidays as part of a rotational schedule aligned with live racing operations.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and the ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a regulatory, licensing, or compliance environment, particularly within a customer-facing service role.
  • Knowledge of administrative processes such as record keeping, reporting, and document management in a regulated environment.
  • Experience in a horse racing or racetrack operational environment.
  • Experience processing payments, reconciliations, or using point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Experience using online service portals, licensing systems, or case management tools.
  • Experience working in high-volume customer service environments across in-person, phone, and email channels.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure horse racing industry participants are appropriately licensed prior to race day by monitoring reports and following up on licensing issues.
  • Provide in-person customer service at racetrack licensing offices and respond to inquiries from applicants and licensees by phone and email.
  • Assist participants with using the AGCO’s online licensing portal (iAGCO), including account setup and application submission.
  • Review and process new and renewal licensing applications.
  • Run race day reports and provide support to Racing Officials, Commission Veterinarians, and other on-site AGCO personnel as required.
  • Receive and process licensing fees and fines, and perform related administrative tasks to support racetrack licensing operations.
