About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a skilled and motivated Licensed Veterinary Technician to come work alongside our board-certified ophthalmologist. As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals. Schedule: Weekdays, 4x10s Pay: $27.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience. As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will: Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.) Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses) Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.) Anesthesia training is available with help or our anesthesia specialist Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care Why BluePearl? Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
