About The Position
AvaMed Workforce is hiring a Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) or Registered Nurse (RN) for a six-month contract at Pelican Bay State Prison in Crescent City, California. The assignment is in a medical setting and includes eight-hour shifts and two weeks of orientation. The assignment runs from November 30, 2026, through May 30, 2027. The schedule is Thursday through Monday, 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM, with a 30-minute meal break. Pay details are available by contacting the employer.
Requirements
- Active California Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) license issued by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT), or California Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Pass a background check and obtain facility security clearance.
- Complete a TB test, immunizations, and facility health clearances.

- Correctional or behavioral health experience.
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing and psychiatric care to incarcerated patients.
- Administer medications and treatments and accurately document care.
- Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate with providers and custody staff.
- Follow all safety, security, and contraband procedures.
