About The Position
Oak Hill School is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support students in a special education classroom in Avon, Connecticut. The Classroom LPN helps maintain students’ health and well-being by monitoring health conditions, administering treatments, implementing healthcare plans, and enabling students to participate safely in educational activities. The role works under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor and in partnership with special education teachers and classroom staff to meet students’ medical and educational needs throughout the school day. The position is full-time, union, and non-exempt, scheduled for 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Compensation is $30–$34 per hour, depending on experience.
Requirements
- Active Connecticut Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- At least three years of licensed nursing experience.
- Experience working with pediatric populations.
- Experience providing care to individuals with tracheostomies and gastrostomy tubes.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Strong clinical assessment, documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary educational and healthcare environment.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care and treatments to support student health and participation in education.
- Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders, nursing standards, and school policies.
- Monitor student health and respond to illness, injury, and emergencies.
- Implement and maintain individualized healthcare plans.
- Care for students with complex medical needs, including tracheostomy and gastrostomy tube management.
- Maintain accurate and timely health records and documentation.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and support personnel to integrate health needs into daily programming.
- Support student engagement, classroom participation, and success.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school climate that encourages learning and personal growth.
- Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development as part of the interdisciplinary team.
- Communicate with the Nurse Supervisor, educational staff, families, and external healthcare providers as appropriate.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to collaborative student planning.
- Ensure compliance with applicable nursing regulations, school policies, and Oak Hill procedures.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and training.
- Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, leadership, and commitment to continuous improvement.
