About The Position

Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN responsible for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The 4 South unit is a 35-bed Stroke Medical-Surgical Unit consisting of a Geriatric and adult patient unit, working on a track schedule with a patient ratio of 1:5. The care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians, and Occupational and Speech Therapists. New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Current licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Compact state licensure
  • BLS - American Heart Association
  • RN - Board Of Nursing
  • Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
  • Visual acuity for observation of patients
  • Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills
  • Verbal and written skills required
  • Has knowledge of the age-specific physiological and psychosocial needs of the patients typically served

Responsibilities

  • Participates in assessment of patient
  • Collaborates with departmental and interdisciplinary groups in developing the patient plan of care
  • Follows patient’s plan of care while participating in the direct nursing care to assigned patients
  • Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse or other authorized person(s)
  • Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
  • Administers medication as ordered by physician
  • Facilitates a safe environment
  • Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately
  • Maintains required competencies
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors the quality of care
  • Establishes collaborative interpersonal relationships with other Health System staff
  • Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the medical regimen
  • Actively participates in cost containment and completes accurate charging for patient services
  • Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP), if applicable
  • Other duties as assigned
