About The Position
The Iowa Veterans Home (IVH) in Marshalltown serves 399 veterans and spouses. Licensed Practical Nurses provide resident-centered care and help ensure residents receive a high quality of life and compassionate care. The LPN serves as the leader of a direct care team and provides and oversees licensed treatments for up to 30 residents. Flexible scheduling is available, including extended shifts: 14-hour shifts from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and 10-hour evening shifts from 12 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., generally working one out of three weekends. Weekend-package shifts from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. are also available, with lodging and meals available upon request. The weekend package requires working at least 32 hours every weekend across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and 40 hours per week; eligible employees receive an $8,000 lump-sum retention payment paid over 26 pay periods. Full-time LPNs may be eligible for a $3,000 recruitment payment, except current State of Iowa employees transferring, demoting, or promoting to another agency. Starting pay is $30.89 per hour.
Requirements
- Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Iowa Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse under the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator's Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
- Applicants are subject to criminal background, Dependent Adult Abuse, and Child Abuse checks.
- New hires must complete employment eligibility verification through E-Verify and be authorized to work in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Provide and oversee licensed treatments for up to 30 residents.
- Assess and evaluate residents’ conditions, take appropriate action, and adjust care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to support the best resident outcomes.
- Lead and mentor Resident Aides, CNAs, and Medication Aides.
- Respond to acute changes in residents with professionalism, skill, and compassion.
