About The Position
The Iowa Veterans Home (IVH) in Marshalltown is hiring a part-time Licensed Practical Nurse to provide resident-centered care to Iowa veterans and their spouses. IVH serves 399 residents and describes its work as a mission to provide compassionate care and honor veterans’ service. Starting pay is $30.89 per hour, and eligible part-time LPNs may receive a $1,500 recruitment payment. Current State of Iowa employees transferring, demoting, or promoting to another agency are not eligible for that payment. The LPN leads a direct-care team and provides and oversees licensed treatments for up to 30 residents. The role includes assessing and evaluating residents, responding to changes in their condition, adjusting care plans, collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team, and leading and mentoring Resident Aides, CNAs, and Medication Aides. Scheduling options include evening shifts of eight hours (2 p.m.–10:30 p.m.) and night shifts of 10 hours (8:15 p.m.–6:15 a.m.), with one weekend out of three. A weekend package requires 40 hours every two weekends, on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; it offers up to $4,000 in retention payments, with lodging and meals available upon request. Applicants must be licensed as an LPN by the Iowa Board of Nursing or hold licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact. Applicants are subject to criminal background, dependent adult abuse, and child abuse checks. The State of Iowa participates in E-Verify and complies with federal Right to Work laws.
Requirements
- Licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the Iowa Board of Nursing, or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact Administrator's Agreement.

Responsibilities
- Provide and oversee licensed treatments for up to 30 residents.
- Assess and evaluate resident conditions, take appropriate action, and adjust care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to support the best outcomes.
- Lead and mentor Resident Aides, CNAs, and Medication Aides.
- Respond to acute changes in residents with professionalism, skill, and compassion.
