Licensed Practical Nurse (9-Month Position)
About The Position
The University Health Center at James Madison University provides comprehensive health care services and health education programs to students, serving more than 30,000 patient encounters annually. Its services include medical clinics, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, and other programs, with evidence-based care delivered in a confidential, inclusive environment. The Licensed Practical Nurse maintains nursing skills through direct patient care in the clinic, including acute care services across multiple clinics. The role works under Health Center policies and standing orders and performs triage, phlebotomy and IVs, ear irrigations, splinting, wound care, and other services as needed. This is a full-time, nine-month classified staff position in the Health and Wellbeing division. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
Requirements
- Current Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
- Demonstrated experience in acute care nursing.
- Experience with phlebotomy, point-of-care laboratory testing, and EKG administration.
- Experience administering immunizations and specialty medications.
- Ability to accurately document patient care and maintain clinical records.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in the clinic, including acute care services in multiple clinics under Health Center policies and standing orders.
- Perform triage, phlebotomy and IVs, ear irrigations, splinting, wound care, and other services as needed.
- Maintain nursing skills through performance of direct patient care.
- Accurately document patient care and maintain clinical records.
