LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - Primary Care
About The Position
Geisinger is hiring a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide primary clinical support to providers, patients, and families in an outpatient primary care clinic. The role assists with diagnosis and treatment, supports continuity and quality of care by following up on diagnostic testing, and promotes a clean clinical environment. The LPN must meet qualifications to care for patients in the age range served by the assigned clinical area. The position is typically full-time, 40 hours per week, on days. Clinic hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with a weekend rotation. New and experienced LPNs are welcome. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available to eligible candidates; details are available from the employer. Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. The employee is accountable for meeting job-specific obligations and following organizational policies and procedures. The listed duties represent typical job elements, and additional competencies or skills identified during department-specific orientation may also be essential.
Requirements
- Graduate from a specialty training program in nursing.
- Hold a Licensed Practical Nurse license.
- Hold Basic Life Support certification.
- Skills in communication, computer literacy, customer service, multitasking, and teamwork.

- At least one year of nursing experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and document patient medical history, chief complaint, and vital signs; provide a basic medical database for the provider and prepare patients for examinations.
- Provide direct clinical care as directed by the provider.
- Assist the provider with minor surgical and diagnostic procedures and ancillary diagnostic examinations.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork accurately and efficiently.
- Execute and document ongoing patient communications as directed by the provider; prioritize communications to the provider and respond to patient questions and requests in a timely manner.
- Administer medications and vaccines, including intradermal administration and skin testing, under provider direction and within scope of practice.
- Clean and set up examination and treatment rooms between cases; maintain asepsis and ensure appropriate instruments, equipment, and patient preparation.
- Follow up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing in the medical record.
