About The Position

This is a travel, temporary assignment for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit in Rochester, NY. The assignment is for multiple weeks with an anticipated start date of 09/28/2026. The unit is a 14-bed temporary overflow med/surg-telemetry unit that supports ED boarders and utilizes remote telemetry monitoring when available. First-time travelers are accepted. The role requires proficiency in EPIC charting and BLS certification. Candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted. Minimal RTO is expected, and additional pre-approved time off may be denied.

Requirements

  • Active NY LPN license in hand (pending licenses not accepted)
  • BLS certification (required)
  • EPIC charting experience (required)
  • Minimum 1 year RN experience; previous charge experience preferred
  • LPNs: may not assume assignment or act as a resource on GIOF/med-surg; may be utilized as a PCT
  • Ability to work in a med/surg telemetry setting with ED transfers/boarders
  • Residency: candidates residing within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
  • Willingness to complete unit-specific orientation; RTO minimal and may be limited

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to adults on a med/surg telemetry unit, including routine assessments and ongoing monitoring.
  • Monitor telemetry data and document vital signs, intake/output, and patient status updates in EPIC; participate in handoffs using SBAR.
  • Perform or assist with routine procedures within scope, such as wound care, Foley catheter care, and basic hygiene tasks; support 12-lead EKG collection as needed.
  • Assist with medication administration per policy, maintain infection prevention practices, and ensure appropriate isolation precautions.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (IV team, PT, Respiratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Social Services, Transportation, Interpretation services, Rapid Response, Unit Secretary) to meet patient needs.
  • Support ED transfers/boarders as part of the tele/overflow unit; assist with patient comfort and safety, and adapt to unit turnover and bed availability.
