About The Position

This is a full-time, day shift position for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Behavioral Health. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is offered to external candidates. The role involves direct patient care, medication administration, patient education, assisting physicians, performing administrative duties, and maintaining a safe and organized work environment. The position requires adherence to policies and procedures, effective communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under stress.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a diploma school of nursing approved by State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Licensed to practice as a licensed practical nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Ability to type and be efficient with computers.
  • Ability to apply appropriate rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Ability to prioritize activities, organize work, and problem solve.
  • Above average to excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to communicate with the public sector by telephone and in person.
  • Ability to deal with anxious and angry people.
  • Ability to communicate with Administrative Staff, Managers, Attorneys, Physicians, and all hospital staff with respect and tact.
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.

Nice To Haves

  • Pacemaker and Defibrillator checks if applicable for the practice.
  • Use of Meditech, Medisoft and Medisoft Clinical EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for provider visits including reason for visit, history, symptoms, weight, height, vital signs, medications, and allergies.
  • Administers medications/vaccinations as ordered by the provider and regulated by the Nurse Practice Acts.
  • Reviews and updates medication lists, identifying potential issues.
  • Assists physicians with procedures.
  • Notifies patients of lab and test results.
  • Collects specimens and performs limited on-site lab tests.
  • Maintains equipment and controls, including refrigerator temperatures.
  • Ensures patient and equipment safety.
  • Communicates and interacts effectively with patients, families, physicians, peers, and other health team members.
  • Provides patient education.
  • Assists in facilitating smooth patient flow.
  • Greets patients and families courteously.
  • Maintains good communication with providers and coworkers.
  • Ensures adequate medical supplies and medications are available and stocked.
  • Sterilizes instruments and instrument packs.
  • Maintains inventory of drug samples and rotates stock, checking expiration dates monthly.
  • Receives prescription refill calls and ensures they are sent to the pharmacy under provider supervision and documented.
  • Ensures nursing documentation in medical records is complete, including vaccine and sample lot numbers.
  • Performs administrative duties such as appointment scheduling, telephone etiquette, mail distribution, obtaining authorizations, and collecting co-payments.
  • Maintains cleanliness of exam rooms and workstations.
  • Maintains organized flow of nursing information and documentation.
  • Triage patient clinical calls.
  • Schedules tests or procedures for patients.
  • Performs Pacemaker and Defibrillator checks if applicable.
  • Uses appropriate measures of Infection Control, including PPE and hand washing.
  • Maintains medical information, filing, and/or scanning.
  • Uses Meditech, Medisoft, and Medisoft Clinical EMR.
  • Follows appropriate chain of command for reporting issues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
