About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their Ambulatory Pediatrics Subspecialty Care team. This role involves partnering with a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care to a complex pediatric population across various subspecialties. The LPN will be responsible for medication reconciliation, measuring vital signs, administering vaccinations and medications, collecting laboratory specimens, and performing urine catheterization, along with other procedural support within the scope of practice. The LPN will provide nursing care under the direct supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor, accepting delegation to meet patient and family needs. Key duties include collecting observational data, communicating findings to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning, and participating as a member of the healthcare team. The LPN will deliver care in accordance with the patient care plan, organizational policies, and principles of relationship-based care. Excellent communication, mentoring, and instructional skills are expected, with opportunities to participate in committees or quality improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program.
  • If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.
  • Current LPN license by applicable state requirements.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers (Arizona and Florida: Maintains current BLS. Midwest: Maintains current BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Ability to work daytime hours, flexibility may be required to meet staffing needs.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • The LPN must be flexible and adapt to unpredictable situations within the clinic setting.
  • The LPN will demonstrate leadership, effective communication, and critical thinking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of LPN experience within the last five years preferred.
  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred.
  • Recent pediatric and/or ambulatory experience is preferred.
  • Strong keyboarding and computer application skills are desired.
  • Prior experience with the electronic medical record is desired, but not required.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.

Responsibilities
