A License Clerk is responsible for performing a wide variety of customer service duties, including cash receipting, processing of documents, and collecting taxes and fees for the State of Minnesota and Douglas County regarding motor vehicle (title/registration), driver's licenses, a variety of Department of Natural Resources (DNR) transactions, and other general office duties. Daily duties may include assisting the public by processing complex motor vehicle licensing and titling transactions according to state statutes, verifying information with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, providing a high level of customer service, processing transactions for car dealers and state and county officials, processing DNR transfers, titles, and license renewals, processing hunting and fishing licenses, performing cashier duties, balancing the cash drawer, answering telephone inquiries, processing Minnesota driver’s license and identification applications, performing vision checks and taking customer photographs, auditing applications and forms, recording and reporting necessary MN driver’s license application information, auditing previous day’s transactions, processing mail, drop-off registrations, and other correspondence, accepting and processing applications for various licenses, permits, transfers, registrations, and filings, responding to telephone and walk-in inquiries, reviewing legal documents, making copies of recorded legal documents, preparing materials, reports, forms, and other written/visual information, entering pertinent data into the computer, computing and processing payments, balancing receipts and fees, and assisting with daily inventory/stocking of license plates, stickers, and other state-supplied materials. Reliable, predictable attendance and punctuality are expected, along with compliance with all rules and policies to maintain a safe work environment. Access to Not Public Data requires employees to view or use private or confidential information only when truly needed for work, keep it secure, and ensure others who don’t need to see it don’t have access, stopping access once the task is done and storing or disposing of it properly according to Minnesota’s Data Practices Act (Chapter 13).
