About The Position

The University of Southern Maine is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Library Specialist CL3 located primarily on the Gorham Campus. This position provides a variety of services and support including information services, circulation assistance, reference, e-reserves, assistance with navigating academic support services, and answering basic technology/computer questions. Excellent service skills are required. The Library Specialist shares responsibility for training and supervising library student assistants. The person in this position will have the needed skills to assist with Interlibrary Loan and digital library services and resources. This position has extensive in-person, telephone, and online interactions with students, faculty, staff, researchers, and the public. This position is responsible for building opening/closing procedures. This position may work on the Portland Campus during the summer months on a variety of projects.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) and one year of specialized training or education in library related services OR High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) and five years of library support experience.
• Excellent service skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide information services, circulation assistance, reference, and e-reserves.
• Assist with navigating academic support services.
• Answer basic technology/computer questions.
• Train and supervise library student assistants.
• Assist with Interlibrary Loan and digital library services and resources.
• Handle extensive in-person, telephone, and online interactions with students, faculty, staff, researchers, and the public.
• Perform building opening/closing procedures.
• Work on a variety of projects on the Portland Campus during the summer months.
