About The Position

The Benton Middle School Library Media Specialist is responsible for accurate knowledge of content and pedagogy, understanding students' individual development and special needs, and selecting and using appropriate resources. This role requires adherence to Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and 504 plans, building coherent lessons, and creating a positive learning environment. The specialist will manage student behavior, communicate effectively with students and families, and collaborate with other staff to address student challenges. They will also maintain accurate records, manage classroom equipment and materials, and contribute to professional growth and the school community. Additionally, the role involves reporting suspected child endangerment, enforcing school policies, attending professional development, assisting with student supervision, and sponsoring extracurricular activities.

Requirements

  • Must have current Arkansas teaching license and certification for the grade level or subject area assigned to.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the supervision of students (such as in school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring and bus loading and unloading).
  • Sponsor extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations and academic contests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or other administrators.
