About The Position

The Library Associate 2 is an entry-level position in the Library Associate job family. Under management direction, this role performs moderately complex technical and paraprofessional duties supporting various library sections and functions, primarily at the circulation desk. The position provides customer service to library patrons and is scheduled for 20 hours per week.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Ability to work a regular schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings, and weekends.
Excellent customer service skills.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Frequently move throughout the location and file or retrieve books and other items from high shelves.
Lift or push up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
Work in confined spaces; walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb.

Nice To Haves

Two years of library experience.
Basic knowledge of library systems and databases.
English/Spanish speaking.

Responsibilities

Welcome and register patrons, issue library cards, check out materials, and manage patron accounts.
Help patrons locate materials or the reference desk, use computers, and understand library procedures such as checking out materials, accessing the Internet, and making copies.
Check in and process library materials as needed.
Accept and process fines, fees, and other payments.
Provide information about programs, events, conference rooms, and related services.
Mail library materials as needed for patron homebound programs.
Shelve library materials.
Address or escalate patron conduct or safety issues to appropriate management.
Follow legal and policy requirements concerning patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
Perform other duties as assigned.
