About The Position

The Denver Public Library (DPL) is seeking multiple on-call Library Assistant II positions to create positive customer experiences across all DPL locations. This role involves direct customer interaction, assisting with circulation matters, and utilizing library resources. DPL is a vibrant hub for the diverse city of Denver, with 28 locations and over 4 million annual visitors. Requirements

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in interpreting, communicating and presenting information.
  • Skill in cash and credit card handling and making simple mathematical computations.
  • Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact.
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner.
  • Ability to adapt to the ebb and flow of material intake.
  • Ability to use workplace technology effectively including email, calendar, internet, databases, video conferencing, and other software.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, cultural sensitivity and sense of humor in working with customers of all ages and backgrounds, coworkers and community.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
  • Ability to pass a background check after the offer to hire has been made.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of customer service experience that included working on a computer.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Checking out and returning books.
  • Registering customers for library cards.
  • Placing holds/ordering books and other library materials from other agencies.
  • Responding to customer questions and issues about circulation matters and curbside interactions.
  • Staying current on library policy and procedures, especially those relating to circulation.
  • Answering customer questions about using library resources and locating library materials.
  • Participating in outreach efforts.
  • Assisting with shelving and other tasks as needed.
  • Being available to work at any DPL location based on operational needs.
  • Being redeployed to work in other locations or capacities to support core functions of the library system during branch closures or other emergencies.
