About The Position

As a library student employee, the Library Access Services Student Assistant greets and assists library users and performs a variety of library access services activities. Work may include checking out, returning, and reshelving materials; troubleshooting printing and computer questions; retrieving or digitizing library materials; and assisting with stacks maintenance, archives, course readings, or interlibrary loan tasks and projects. Student assistants are typically scheduled in two-hour blocks and work an average of 8–12 hours per week at the Library Access Services Desk. At the beginning of each shift, employees collect library usage data and check in for daily projects. Depending on timing, availability, and interest, some shifts may be designated for Interlibrary Loan, Stacks, or Archives. These shifts are not desk-oriented, are often project-based, and require greater attention to detail and critical thinking. Student assistants who have worked for at least one semester are eligible to apply to be a Library Student Manager. The position reports to Access Services Staff and indirectly to Library Student Managers. It has no direct supervisory responsibilities. Pay is $16 per hour. For Spring 2027, the library is especially interested in candidates who can reliably work 11 p.m.–2 a.m. shifts or weekends, or who are interested in learning the more detailed processes of Interlibrary Loan.
