About The Position

The Hazel Park School District is seeking a Level III Classroom Paraprofessional for Hazel Park Junior High School, a high-needs school. This is a regular school year position, 5 days per week, from 7:45 AM to 3:15 PM, serving grades 6-8. The role involves working with students with diverse needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and significant cognitive impairments, implementing individualized behavioral plans. The paraprofessional will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and other professional staff, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism while dealing with challenging behaviors.

Requirements

  • Pass ETS Test, or have 2 years of college
  • Shall have at least a high school diploma
  • Good communication skills
  • Good attendance record is expected
  • Certified in the C.P.I. training and the ability to implement all stages of the training, including the restraint portion of Crisis Prevention, OR, willingness to take the training and implement procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of work related information

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Autism and experience and/or training in working with students with ASD is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all students, staff, and administrative correspondence.
  • Perform all assigned tasks in a prompt and professional manner.
  • In the absence of immediate administration direction, act in the best interests of the students and the school district.
  • Deal with teachers, pupils, parents, and the public with friendliness, tact, and poise.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as may be directed by the program administrator or other assigned professional staff members.
  • Work under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher.
  • Ability to communicate with teachers, pupils, parents, and the public in a professional, friendly manner.
  • Ability and willingness to deal with challenging behaviors under the direction of the teacher with poise and professionalism.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students with ASD, implementing individualized behavioral plans.
  • Ability to be flexible and take on a variety of assignments within the classroom and the building.
  • Ability to understand that each student may work under an individualized plan which matches their learning level, which includes significant cognitive impairments along with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Implement all stages of CPI training, including the restraint portion of Crisis Prevention.
  • Follow an individualized Behavioral Plan, under the teacher/ psychologist direction.
