About The Position

Better Living Health and Community Services has an opening for a Leisure Activities Program Coordinator. This position is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing programs and assisting Adult Day Program clients, and the Team during activities. This position reports to Supervisor, Adult Day Program. To be eligible to participate in Canada Summer Jobs, Candidates Must: Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act and; Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled or completed degree or diploma in related field of Health & Wellness, Gerontology or Social Services is an asset.
  • Proficient in the use of computers, including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Current First Aid & C.P.R. certification is asset.
  • Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within one month of employment.
  • Demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills required to succeed in a collaborative, team-oriented working environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work through customer issues to achieve a desired outcome.
  • Adapt and change accordingly to plans and circumstances proactively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning of monthly calendars of special events/programming and submit when requested
  • Assist in developing programs based on Individual Program Plans regarding the needs and desires of the program participants including culturally appropriate programs
  • Assist in the implementation of program in conjunction with team members
  • Assist in preparing, setting-up and cleaning-up the program, equipment and supplies
  • Assist in facilitating recreation, social and exercise programs and supports other staff, students and volunteers who assist with these program
  • Provide seniors with information about the Better Living Health and Community Services
  • Ability to manage multiple administrative responsibilities through strong organizational, prioritization and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a supportive manner with Clients, Caregivers, and other healthcare professionals in order to effectively respond to the needs of Clients.
  • Provide services in keeping with the organization’s Mission, Vision and Beliefs and Resident Declaration of Values.
  • Adhere to the principles and expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA 2010) as outlined in the organization privacy policies and procedures.
  • Perform the functions of job description in compliance with the Health and Safety practices of the organization and in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization in order to advance a culture of quality and support ongoing compliance with CARF Accreditation standards.
