About The Position

Better Living Health and Community Services has an opening for an Activities Leader- Seniors. This position is responsible for assisting in planning and implementing programs, and support Active Living Programs at both Senior Active Living Centres located at 1 Overland and 5 Deavuille. This position reports to the Coordinator, Active Living Programs. To be eligible to participate in Canada Summer Jobs, Candidates Must: Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigrant and Refugee Protection Act and; Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

  • Currently enrolled in a degree or diploma in related field of Health & Wellness, Gerontology or Social Services
  • Successful completion of Vulnerable Sector Screening within one month of employment
  • Demonstrate high level of interpersonal skills required to succeed in a collaborative, team-oriented working environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work through customer issues to achieve a desired outcome.
  • Adapt and change accordingly to plans and circumstances proactively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, preparation, and delivery of Active Living programs at both Overland and Deauville locations.
  • Assist the Active Living Programs team with daily program operations, including set-up, facilitation, and take-down of program spaces.
  • Provide front desk and on-site support, including greeting participants, answering general inquiries, and assisting with registrations where needed.
  • Assist with data entry, attendance tracking, and basic program statistics.
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming, and organized program environment for participants.
  • Provide general administrative support, including filing, binder updates, and documentation tasks.
  • Promote positive participant engagement and encourage inclusive participation in programs.
  • Provide services in keeping with the organization’s Mission, Vision and Beliefs and Resident Declaration of Values.
  • Adhere to the principles and expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA 2010) as outlined in the organization privacy policies and procedures.
  • Perform the functions of job description in compliance with the Health and Safety practices of the organization and in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Participate in the continuous quality improvement activities of the organization in order to advance a culture of quality and support ongoing compliance with CARF Accreditation standards.
