About The Position

This role is a part of the Canada Summer Jobs 2026 program. The Seniors Activities Facilitator, Summer Student, is responsible for assisting with programming for active seniors and seniors who are physically frail and/or have Alzheimer Disease or related dementia and adults with disabilities at Dixon Hall (DH). The Summer Student is required to perform his/her duties in a manner consistent with Dixon Hall's Mission, Vision and Values, ensure safety, and demonstrate customer service excellence.

Requirements

  • A college diploma or degree in progress as a Social Service Worker or related field of study
  • Prior placement opportunities completed in similar environments
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of working with seniors who are physically frail and/or have Alzheimer Disease or related dementia and adults with disabilities
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Dependable, punctual and flexible
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher) and database management
  • Able to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
  • Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
  • Have a valid SIN

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the delivery of programs to participants
  • Assist in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating program activities and meals
  • Assist and escort clients on agency transportation vehicles
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living such as toileting, transferring or eating, and other functioning when needed
  • Engage socially with program participants
  • Maintaining accurate electronic client documentation and records
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment, reporting any improvements needed or issues that arise
  • Work collaboratively with the supervisor, Dixon Hall staff, volunteers and partners
  • Operate in an effective, efficient and client-focused manner to achieve the best outcomes for clients
  • Actively participate in department and agency meetings and events
  • Work under the guidance of the agency and program policies and procedures, including the Mission, Vision and Values of Dixon Hall
  • Meet regularly with supervisor to discuss individual, team and program effectiveness
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as assigned, within the purview of the job description
