About The Position

The Illinois Department of Revenue is seeking to hire a Legislative Assistant (Administrative Assistant I) to serve as administrative support to the Office of Legislative Affairs located in Springfield, IL. This position is responsible for reviewing and routing highly confidential documents, directing phone calls, and working closely with the Director of Legislative Affairs and staff to ensure the commitments and responsibilities of the Office are met in a timely manner. If you possess strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities, then we want you!

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.
  • One year of professional experience in a public or private organization, -OR- completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
  • Ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
  • Ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, tablet, etc.
  • Must file a Statement of Economic Interest.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience accessing and researching taxpayer accounts in GenTax or similar tax processing software.
  • One (1) year of experience working with legislative processes.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word or similar word processing software.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Excel or similar spreadsheet software.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Access or similar database software.
  • Basic proficiency with Adobe Acrobat or similar document manipulating software.
  • One (1) year of experience setting up and conducting meetings and sharing information through Microsoft Teams or similar collaborative digital environment.
  • One (1) year of experience creating and updating presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint or similar presentation software.

Responsibilities

  • Fields constituent and taxpayer inquiries directed to the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA).
  • Reviews and assists OLA staff with analysis of pending legislation.
  • Assists with development of IDOR legislative proposals.
  • Serves as administrator of the Legislative Tracking System (LTS).
  • Serves as area timekeeper.
  • Conducts a variety of secretarial and administrative tasks necessary to the operations of the office.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
