About The Position

The Legal Subrogation Recovery Specialist identifies and protects subrogation and recovery rights on auto subrogation (insured and uninsured), Public Entity, and Fixed Property matters by pursuing reimbursement from responsible third parties. This role independently manages a caseload of approximately 200 files, applying knowledge of applicable laws, statutes, and tort remedies to successfully recover property damage funds on behalf of our clients. This position supports the Carl Warren & Company (CWC) Subrogation program.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, statutes of the subrogation-recovery process and principles of insurance and basic subrogation concepts.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of technical experience processing and recovering subrogation claims.
  • Strong command of the English language; both written and verbal.
  • Excellent keyboard skills with limited errors.
  • Moderate to high proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; prior use of any database program is a plus.
  • Strong reasoning, problem-solving, and analytical ability.
  • Must be self-directed, self-motivated, and willing to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Telephone skills and customer relationship skills.
  • Basic mathematical skills are necessary.
  • Paralegal Certificate from a state-credentialed paralegal program required.
  • Minimum Claims Experience: 3–5 years.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance claims and recovery experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with Carl Warren & Company (CWC) subrogation programs preferred.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Legal Studies, or a related field preferred.
  • Insurance designation (e.g., AIC, AIM, CPCU) or insurance-related coursework preferred.
  • Prior experience with TPA or third-party claims management environments a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Determines on a case-by-case basis where subrogation and recovery possibilities exist.
  • Applies rules, statutes, and tort remedies to fact situations to identify possible resources on which to base a demand for reimbursement from third-party payers.
  • Uses available resources to investigate claim situations and accurately identify individual claimants and other legally responsible entities against which subrogation or recovery claims can be made.
  • Reviews and evaluates accident or incident reports, individual claims, and other documents relating to funds paid out by clients.
  • Notifies other parties, insurance carriers, and/or attorneys of the client’s subrogation or recovery interest; negotiates with other parties, carriers, and attorneys regarding settlement or other actions.
  • Educates clients regarding their recovery rights and makes recommendations to clients for settlement, subject to client’s final approval.
  • Prepares and maintains case files, correspondence, legal documents, and other information related to subrogation claims; participates in or coordinates actions involving accounting for payments received.
  • Maintains familiarity with legal filing statutes within casefile jurisdiction to protect client’s legal rights and remedies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
