About The Position

Kern County employees provide opportunities that are purposeful to our community. Every employee and every action contributes to the improvement and strengthening of our county. This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made at the Kern County District Attorney's Office. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent, and one year of legal secretary training.
  • Three years of clerical experience in a social service, criminal justice or legal setting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to obtain the knowledge and skill to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Possession and maintenance of a California Notary Public Commission (for some positions).
  • Valid government issued photograph identification for examination.
  • Background check may be conducted.
  • Post offer medical and drug screening tests may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of motions, subpoenas, discoveries, or calendaring.
