About The Position

The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking a highly motivated individual to join their team as a Legal Records Professional in the Records Unit. This mission-critical position involves complex office operations, requiring specialized knowledge and attention to detail. The role includes daily attendance at court hearings to provide administrative assistance to deputy prosecuting attorneys. Responsibilities are rotated monthly, and individuals must be able to handle assigned workloads independently with minimal supervision. The consequences of errors in this role can be significant. The position requires extensive liaison with attorneys, filing staff, co-workers, court personnel, detention officers, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of office practices and procedures, particularly in the criminal legal system.
  • Skill in maintaining an overview of complex processes involving many steps.
  • Skill in learning each calendar from beginning to end.
  • Ability to obtain all information needed for completion.
  • Skill in functioning well and efficiently under high pressure and short deadlines.
  • Ability to anticipate needs of the calendar Deputy Prosecuting Attorney's (DPA) and court.
  • Must respond in a timely manner to questions from the court and the jail.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Skill in working independently, exercising initiative, and following through on work assignments with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to recognize issues and take quick and effective actions all while using good judgment.
  • Excellent computer skills required.
  • Comfortable with receiving and sending information in many different formats – email, reminders, hard copy format, cloud, etc.
  • Skills in expressing ideas orally and in writing.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with attorneys, the court, other employees, and the general public.
  • Demonstrated predictable and reliable attendance.
  • Desire and ability to work in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Holiday and Saturday calendar coverage is also occasionally required if there is a lack of volunteers.
  • Overtime when the calendars run long.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex office operations requiring specialized knowledge.
  • Attend court hearings daily to provide administrative assistance to deputy prosecuting attorneys.
  • Handle assigned workloads independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Liaise with attorneys, filing staff, co-workers, court personnel, detention officers, law enforcement agencies, and the public.
  • Input new investigation referrals and defendants in the PBK database.
  • Prepare calendars and paperwork for individuals booked under a criminal investigation.
  • Attend court with prosecutor to prepare bail and conditions of release paperwork.
  • Docket all bail and Conditions of Release in the database.
  • Prepare arraignment calendars, assist attorneys in court, and docket accurate court calendar information.
  • Prepare omnibus calendars, docket, update completed guilty pleas, and perform data entry.
  • Prepare and distribute competency calendars, assist attorneys in court, docket court results and next hearings.
  • Answer phones from the general public and other agencies.
  • Assist or direct individuals who come to the Records window.
  • Scan Investigation packets into PBK.
  • Prepare the daily bond calendar.
  • Process posted bonds.
  • Provide discovery to defense attorneys.
  • Perform morning and afternoon court runs.
  • Actively participate in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions.

Benefits

  • Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of the collective bargaining agreement between our office and Teamsters Local No. 117. This contribution is made by the employee and after two years it is paid by the employer.
