Requirements

  • Law degree (LL.B or J.D.) and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 2-4 years of construction law experience (ideally, on both the solicitor and litigation side), gained from a well-respected firm or corporation.
  • Experience working on large projects will be highly valued as will experience negotiating and drafting construction contracts, RFP documents, advising on project risk and taking an active role on construction projects.
  • Experience with construction litigation management and project procurement will also be of interest.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to build relationships with the business groups, will also be key components of your success.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Work on major infrastructure projects from the procurement stage through to completion, including responding to bidders’ questions, reviewing of documents, advising on risk, working with senior counsel to prepare briefs and presentations and handling claims.
  • Instruct external counsel, and interact with the business groups, providing legal advice and participating in strategic discussions.
  • Broaden generalist legal skills, working on a healthy mix of corporate/commercial work.
