The 2027 Summer Internship for Legal & Compliance Analyst is located at PIMCO’s Newport Beach, CA Headquarters. Interns will play a crucial role in ensuring PIMCO's investment and strategic goals align with client guidelines and regulatory requirements. Depending on specialization, interns may focus on Investment Compliance, interpreting regulations, coding, and monitoring trades for public funds and separate accounts, or Regulatory Compliance, reviewing marketing materials, navigating broker-dealer regulations, addressing anti-financial crime requirements, or exploring other critical regulatory areas like conflicts of interest. Interns will develop an understanding of relevant regulations, evaluate controls, and deliver on assigned projects. The internship also includes engagement in ad hoc projects such as resolving inquiries, conducting scenario analysis, AI-based initiatives, and technology testing. A specific project will involve detailed analysis, proposal development, presentation, and driving change within the compliance organization. The program offers hands-on experience with industry experts, opportunities to develop professional skills, contribute to initiatives, and shape the future of the investment management industry.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  • Must be able to begin full-time employment from a PIMCO office between January 2028 – August 2028.
  • Must be enrolled at a university during the Fall 2027 semester (August 2027 – December 2027).
  • Have a minimum 3.2 cumulative collegiate grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) at an accredited 4-year college or university.
  • Business proficient in English.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm that PIMCO's investment and strategic goals align with client guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret regulations, code, and monitor trades for public funds and separate accounts (Investment Compliance specialization).
  • Review marketing materials, navigate broker-dealer regulations, address anti-financial crime requirements, or explore other critical regulatory areas (Regulatory Compliance specialization).
  • Develop a keen understanding of relevant regulations and learn how to evaluate controls designed to mitigate regulatory risk.
  • Deliver on assigned projects to monitor PIMCO's adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Engage in various ad hoc projects on a daily basis, including resolving inquiries, conducting scenario analysis, AI-based initiatives, and participating in technology testing.
  • Conduct detailed analysis, develop and present proposals, and drive meaningful change within the compliance organization for an assigned project.
