About The Position

This internship offers a unique and impactful experience within the Legal & Compliance department at PIMCO. Interns will play a crucial role in ensuring PIMCO's investment and strategic goals align with client guidelines and regulatory requirements. Depending on the specialization, interns may focus on Investment Compliance, which involves interpreting regulations, coding, and monitoring trades for public funds and separate accounts, or Regulatory Compliance, focusing on areas such as marketing materials, broker-dealer regulations, anti-financial crime, or conflicts of interest. The role also includes engaging in ad hoc projects like resolving inquiries, conducting scenario analysis, AI-based initiatives, and technology testing. A significant part of the internship involves a specific project requiring detailed analysis, proposal development, and presentation to drive change within the compliance organization. This is a transformative opportunity to work with industry experts, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to important initiatives in the investment management industry.

Requirements

  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree.
  • Must be able to begin full-time employment from a PIMCO office between January 2028 – August 2028.
  • Must be enrolled at a university during the Fall 2027 semester (August 2027 – December 2027).
  • A minimum 3.2 cumulative collegiate grade point average on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent) at an accredited 4-year college or university.
  • Business proficiency in English.

  • Demonstrated interest in financial markets, macroeconomics, investment finance, and/or legal & compliance.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, including proficiency of MS Excel, attention to detail, and a track record in creative problem-solving.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.

Responsibilities

  • Confirm that PIMCO's investment and strategic goals align with client guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret regulations, code, and monitor trades for public funds and separate accounts (Investment Compliance specialization).
  • Review marketing materials, navigate broker-dealer regulations, address anti-financial crime requirements, or explore other critical regulatory areas (Regulatory Compliance specialization).
  • Develop a keen understanding of relevant regulations and learn how to evaluate controls designed to mitigate regulatory risk.
  • Deliver on assigned projects to monitor PIMCO's adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Engage in various ad hoc projects, including resolving inquiries, conducting scenario analysis, AI-based initiatives, and participating in technology testing.
  • Conduct detailed analysis, develop and present proposals for a specific assigned project to drive meaningful change within the compliance organization.
