We are looking for a full-time Legal Assistant for a current opportunity within our Competition Law group. This position bridges Competition Law with other regulatory areas of law. Practice areas include Communication Law, which entails broadcasting, telecommunications, and internet regulation. Additional practice areas include Copyright Law, Privacy Law, Advertising Law, Consumer Protection Law, and Corporate Commercial Law. In this role, you will be responsible for providing full clerical, administrative and general office duties.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education with a focus on legal administration or equivalency
  • Minimum 2 years related experience, preferably within a legal professional services firm
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Discretion, confidentiality and attention to detail are essential
  • A team player who takes initiative and works well independently
  • Solid written & verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates excellent client service and ability to anticipate client needs

Responsibilities

  • Digital filing with regulators, circulating daily press releases and decisions of regulators, occasionally downloading submissions from regulatory platforms
  • Document management including proofreading and editing forms of legal documents such as agreements, letters, memos, presentations, organizational charts and other practice specific documents
  • Timekeeping & accounting including entering and finalizing dockets, generating prebills, preparing invoices, and liaising with Finance regarding client billings
  • Prepare workflow forms and further documentation related to cheque requisitions, trust disbursements, AMEX statements and other accounting procedures
  • Email, phone & calendar management, including liaising with clients, scheduling appointments, arranging conference calls, booking facilities and other meeting requirements i.e. meals, audio visual equipment, etc.
  • Coordinate firm resources including working with support departments and other legal assistants to ensure required actions are completed in a timely and efficient manner
  • Provide assistance to others during absences as needed
  • Other duties as assigned.
