About The Position

The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach Lecturer- AIS 265: American Indian Women Writers. This course surveys work by American Indian women writers from the early 19th century to the present. It takes a historical and topic-based approach to analyzing poetry, plays, short stories, memoirs, essays, and prose nonfiction by American Indian women. Topics covered include land and sovereignty, colonization and decolonization, U.S. governmental policy and cultural genocide, civil rights and activism, missing and murdered Indigenous women, stereotypes and appropriation, and identity.

Requirements

  • A master's degree or equivalent in American Indian Studies or related discipline.
  • Must be able to work in the State of California.
