About The Position

The Department of American Indian Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach Lecturer- AIS 265: American Indian Women Writers. This course surveys work by American Indian women writers from the early 19th century to the present, using a historical and topic-based approach to analyze poetry, plays, short stories, memoirs, essays, and prose nonfiction. Key topics covered include land and sovereignty, colonization and decolonization, U.S. governmental policy and cultural genocide, civil rights and activism, missing and murdered Indigenous women, stereotypes and appropriation, and identity.

Requirements

  • A master's degree or equivalent in American Indian Studies or related discipline.
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
  • Must comply with the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
  • Subject to employment verification, education verification, reference checks and criminal record checks.
  • Must sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.
