About The Position

The Department of Horticulture in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Horticulture Lecturer. This faculty position is a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track, 100% instruction appointment that may be renewed annually contingent upon satisfactory performance. There may be an opportunity for a separate appointment during the summer for additional instructional and student-related activities. Full-time positions are eligible for benefits, including health insurance. The projected start date is January 4, 2027.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in horticulture or a closely related plant science discipline from an accredited institution by the time employment begins.
  • Experience as an instructor of record for undergraduate horticulture or related plant science courses at the university or community college level.
  • Passion for training the next generation of leaders through highly engaged instruction and hands-on learning.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and maintain legal authorization to work for the term of employment.
  • A cover letter that addresses experience pertinent to all position responsibilities.
  • Current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of all academic transcripts.
  • A one-to-two-page statement of teaching philosophy and vision for the position.
  • Four professional references with contact information.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background and experience in ornamental horticulture.
  • Strong background and experience in commercial landscape design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Experience in student recruitment.
  • Experience in undergraduate student club advising.
  • Experience in training students for successful competition in national events such as the NALP National Collegiate Landscape Competition.

Responsibilities

  • Instructor of record for undergraduate horticulture courses (e.g., HORT 2210 – Landscape Gardening, HORT 3280 – Landscape Construction, HORT 3910 – Professional Landscape, HORT 3950 – Careers in Horticulture, and HORT 5210/6210 – Landscape Bidding, Installation, and Maintenance).
  • Teach 12 credits per semester, with potential for course assignments to be changed or negotiated.
  • Advise the Auburn University Landscape and Nursery Association (AULNA) student club.
  • Participate on the Student Scholarships and Awards Committee.
  • Participate in training students in hands-on learning opportunities at the Auburn University Transformation Garden.
