About The Position

The position carries a primary instructional assignment in spring and summer, anticipated at four courses or equivalent assignments each semester. Fall responsibilities will focus on student success and mentoring, undergraduate research, scholarly and professional activity, academic projects, and preparation for the spring and summer instructional cycle. The faculty member may periodically participate in the Innovation Academy freshman study abroad program as part of a rotating instructional model. Study abroad participation will be considered part of the annual faculty assignment, with other fall responsibilities adjusted accordingly. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, student mentoring, collaboration, and the interdisciplinary educational mission of the University of Florida Innovation Academy.

Requirements

• Earned Ph.D., Ed.D., or other appropriate terminal doctoral degree from an accredited institution in education, higher education, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, business, design, social science, or another discipline relevant to the Innovation Academy's interdisciplinary academic mission.
• Demonstrated excellence in experiential, project-based undergraduate teaching.
• Strong student mentoring and coaching skills, particularly around ambiguity, iteration, failure, and professional growth.
• Evidence of strong written, verbal, interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative skills.
• Ability to teach collaboratively within a common curriculum while maintaining consistent learning outcomes and standards across sections.
• Demonstrated ability to use data, assessment, or other evidence to inform educational decision-making.

Nice To Haves

• Three or more years of successful college- or university-level teaching experience.
• Experience teaching innovation, entrepreneurship, design thinking, leadership, interdisciplinary studies, experiential learning, or related subjects.
• Experience with digital fabrication and prototyping technologies, such as 3-D printing, laser cutting, Autodesk Fusion, Arduino, or similar tools.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate research, honors projects, independent studies, or student scholarly activities.
• Experience conducting applied educational research or scholarship of teaching and learning.
• Record of professional presentations, publications, assessment reports, or other scholarly or practitioner contributions.
• Experience working with undergraduate student success, retention, persistence, or academic-engagement initiatives.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary student populations.
• Experience teaching project-based or team-based courses.
• Experience with global learning or faculty-led study abroad programs.
• Experience developing or participating in externally funded academic initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, academic advisors, professional staff, and university leadership.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate Innovation Academy courses during the spring and summer semesters, with an anticipated 4+4 instructional assignment. Provide high-quality, student-centered instruction while contributing to course planning, assessment, mentoring, and continuous improvement.
• During the fall semester, responsibilities will focus on student success and mentoring, undergraduate research, scholarly and professional activities, special projects, and preparation for spring and summer instruction. Specific priorities will be established annually with the Innovation Academy Director based on program needs.
• Periodically participate in the Innovation Academy freshman study abroad program as part of a rotating instructional model. Study abroad participation will be considered part of the annual faculty assignment, with other fall responsibilities adjusted accordingly.
• Provide faculty-based mentoring and engagement that supports student persistence, academic progress, professional development, research opportunities, and preparation for graduate or professional pathways. Collaborate with IA advising staff while maintaining appropriate distinctions between faculty mentoring and professional academic advising.
• Participate in Innovation Academy and university service through faculty meetings, committees, student recruitment and engagement activities, and major IA events and initiatives. Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and university partners in support of the academic mission of Innovation Academy and the University of Florida.
