About The Position

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a Lecturer to teach classes within the Spanish and Portuguese Department at the 100-300 level. These appointments are for the fall semester of the 2026-27 academic year, starting August 17, 2026, with the potential for renewal in the spring semester. Positions may be extended or converted to ongoing based on need and/or funding. This role can be full or part-time (33.4%-100% FTE) depending on the number of courses taught.

Requirements

Must have 1-3 years of experience teaching first-semester Spanish or higher-level courses at UW-Madison or comparable institution.
Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
Master’s degree required.

Nice To Haves

Experience with instructional and curriculum development.
Experience with Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, Kaltura, or Google suite to create inbox/messaging, discussions, assignment feedback, course organization/navigation.
Specialization in any or a combination of the following areas preferred: Spanish language, literature, cultural studies, and linguistics.
PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
