About The Position

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is seeking a Lecturer to teach classes within the Spanish and Portuguese Department at the 100-300 level. These appointments are for the fall semester of the 2026-27 academic year, starting August 17, 2026, with the potential for renewal in the spring semester. Positions may be extended or converted to ongoing based on need and/or funding. This role can be full or part-time (33.4%-100% FTE) depending on the number of courses taught.

Requirements

  • Must have 1-3 years of experience teaching first-semester Spanish or higher-level courses at UW-Madison or comparable institution.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish.
  • Master’s degree required.

  • Eligibility to work in the United States on or before the effective date of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with instructional and curriculum development.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, such as Canvas, Kaltura, or Google suite to create inbox/messaging, discussions, assignment feedback, course organization/navigation.
  • Specialization in any or a combination of the following areas preferred: Spanish language, literature, cultural studies, and linguistics.
  • PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations
  • Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance

Benefits

  • The minimum salary is $63,950 at 100% FTE for a full academic year. Actual salary will be prorated based on FTE and number of days worked.
