About The Position

The Department of Ethnic Studies at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for its pool of part-time lecturers. Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across the campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool are valid for the current academic year only and will close effective May 31, 2027. A new application must be submitted each year for consideration for the following academic year.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Asian American Studies, or related field (for Asian American Studies)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Pacific Studies, or related field (for Critical Pacific Islands & Oceania Studies)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chicana/o/x Studies or Latina/o/x Studies, or related field (for Chicana/o/x & Latina/o/x Studies)
  • Must have US residency and proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background check.
  • Must sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.
  • Must comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
  • Must perform work from within the State of California.

Nice To Haves

  • College/university teaching experience
  • Master’s degree in Asian American Studies, or related field

  • Master’s degree in Chicana/o/x Studies or Latina/o/x Studies, or related field

Responsibilities

  • Teach Introduction to Chicana/o/x Studies (ETHS 1508)
  • Teach Introduction to Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies (ETHS 1308)
  • Fulfill duties as a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.
  • Report information pertaining to discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct or exploitation, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and retaliation to the Campus Title IX Officer.
