About The Position

The Department of Public Health at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach PH 303 - Social, Behavioral, and Community Health. This course is a 3-unit course taught over the course of the semester. The course introduces current issues in health from a social science and behavioral perspective. It defines and explores health determinants using an ecological approach, and identifies multilevel influences, risk factors, and health prevention/promotion strategies. PH 303 provides a foundational understanding of public health concepts, tools, approaches and a critical examination of health and disease within populations.

Requirements

  • A Master of Public Health (MPH) or Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) is required.
  • Experience working with college-level students or teaching in an institution of higher learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with core faculty and colleagues.
  • Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A doctoral degree in Public Health or a closely related field (e.g. PhD, MD, DrPH, ScD, JD, etc.).
  • Demonstrate intercultural competence.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to serving the campus community as it relates to teaching and, as applicable, service.
