Lecturer - SOC 105: Introduction to Justice Studies (Fall 2026)
About The Position
The Department of Sociology and Criminology & Justice Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach SOC 105: Introduction to Justice Studies. This course provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Justice Studies, exploring economic, social, and criminal justice issues through sociological, philosophical, and legal perspectives. Students will critically assess obstacles and opportunities related to the pursuit of justice in the United States and abroad, with potential topics including formal legal systems, institutionalization of injustice, environmental justice, and genocide. The position is part-time and the class is scheduled for Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8:20 p.m. in a hybrid modality.
Requirements
- A master's degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
- Must be able to work in the State of California.
- Must sign a release form authorizing the release of information by current and/or former employers to the CSU concerning any substantiated allegations of misconduct.
- Must disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last 7 years (this disclosure occurs after meeting minimum qualifications and before an offer of employment).
Nice To Haves
- A doctorate or terminal degree in the area of instruction or a closely related field.
- Higher education experience teaching Sociology and/or Criminology & Justice Studies.
- Demonstrated intercultural competence.
- Commitment to serving the campus community in teaching and, as applicable, service.
