About The Position

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maine is seeking to fill an ongoing teaching position at the rank of Lecturer. The anticipated start date is August 31, 2027. Lecturers typically teach three classes per semester during the 9-month academic year. This 10.5-month position also includes 1.5 months of summer mathematics instruction (June 1 – July 15), during which two classes will be taught, likely online. The salary range for this 10.5-month position is $66,000 - $75,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an ongoing position, contingent upon satisfactory performance, with a promotion track and "just cause" protection after 6 years of service. Essential duties include a mix of in-person and online undergraduate teaching in mathematics and/or statistics at the 100-level, course coordination, assessment, curriculum development, and/or other leadership activities related to instruction. Additional summer teaching opportunities may be available with extra compensation. Service to the department and university, collegial participation in departmental life, and engagement in professional development activities are also expected. This is an in-person, on-campus position.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics.
  • A graduate degree (master’s or higher) in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching of college-level mathematics.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities
