The Department of Biology at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking to hire two full-time Lecturers to join their teaching faculty. These are nine-month, non-tenure-track appointments beginning January 2, 2027. The department is committed to excellence in undergraduate education and works with engaged students from across the university's undergraduate programs. Successful candidates will join a collegial group of teaching-track faculty focused on undergraduate biology education. The primary teaching responsibilities will be in the introductory courses, Principles of Biology 1 and 2, covering foundational biology content such as the central dogma, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and evolution. Each position involves a full-time teaching load, including teaching, advising, and department/university service. Lecturers will be expected to teach both lecture and lab sections for introductory biology courses each semester. While the focus is on introductory teaching, there are opportunities to teach other courses based on expertise and to participate in curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, and other initiatives supporting undergraduate education. Initial appointments are annual, with renewal based on successful evaluations. The department has a strong record of retaining and promoting teaching-track faculty and views these positions as vital to its educational mission. Lecturers demonstrating excellence may be promoted within the teaching-track faculty ranks. These are teaching-focused roles; research is not expected. Teaching-track faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development and contribute to curricular and pedagogical innovation.
