About The Position

The Department of Biological Sciences at Indiana University South Bend is seeking to hire a full-time lecturer. This position begins on either January 1 or August 1, 2027. The role involves teaching 12 credit hours of undergraduate courses per semester (fall and spring), with the possibility of evening, weekend, off-site, or online instruction. Summer teaching is optional and will be compensated separately. The lecturer will teach introductory biology courses, including labs, high-demand courses like introductory physiology, and upper-level undergraduate courses within their specialization. Service to the department, school, campus, or community, including attending faculty meetings and serving on committees, is expected. The candidate must be prepared to teach both face-to-face and online courses as required. This position does not require a research program or publications.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Biology or a related field is required for lecturer positions.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate biology courses.
  • Ability to teach introductory biology, including labs.
  • Ability to teach introductory physiology.
  • Willingness to teach upper-level undergraduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
  • Preparedness to teach face-to-face and online courses.
  • Willingness to teach evening, off-site, and/or online courses.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in Biology or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience teaching a variety of undergraduate biology courses.
  • Experience with online course delivery platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the equivalent of 12 credit hours of undergraduate coursework each semester (fall and spring).
  • Teach introductory biology sequence (including labs).
  • Teach high demand courses such as introductory physiology.
  • Teach upper-level undergraduate classes in the candidate’s area of expertise.
  • Participate in service activities to the department, school, campus, or community.
  • Regularly attend and participate in faculty meetings.
  • Serve on relevant committees.
  • Teach face-to-face and online courses, as needed by the department.
  • Teach courses that may be offered in the evenings, off-site, and/or online.
