About The Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of San Diego seeks applications for part-time instructors for General Chemistry I laboratory, General Chemistry II laboratory, Organic Chemistry I lecture, Organic Chemistry I laboratory, and Organic Chemistry II for Fall 2026. These are in-person, part-time positions with a faculty load of no more than 6 units per semester. Instructors will be supported by Directors of General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, respectively, who will lead meetings to ensure curricular content and consistency across multi-section courses. The positions are part of the Non-tenure Track Bargaining Unit and are subject to the terms of the College’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with SEIU Local 721. This is a temporary, non-benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2026, renewable at the discretion of the University based on performance and funding.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in chemistry or in a closely related field.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
  • Official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

  • A terminal degree in chemistry or in a closely related field.
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach General Chemistry I Laboratory (CHEM151L sections -04, -06, -08, -09) for Fall 2026.
  • Teach General Chemistry II Laboratory (CHEM152L sections -01, -03) for Fall 2026.
  • Teach Organic Chemistry I lecture (CHEM301 sections 02, -06) for Fall 2026.
  • Teach Organic Chemistry I laboratory (CHEM301L-11) for Fall 2026.
  • Teach Organic Chemistry II (CHEM302-02) for Fall 2026.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with Directors of General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry to communicate curricular content and maintain consistency across multi-section courses.

Benefits

  • Compensation will be paid on a bi-weekly basis at a per-unit rate of $2,581-$2,659, commensurate with qualifications.
