About The Position

Western Connecticut State University’s Macricostas School of Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted for a tenure track Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry. The anticipated start date will be January 2027. The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers American Chemical Society-certified Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry and in Chemistry with a Biochemistry option. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry or related field at time of hire.
  • Strong commitment to excellence in teaching and undergraduate research.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Teaching experience includes physical or analytical chemistry.
  • Research involves materials chemistry or computational chemistry.
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for first-generation and under-represented groups.

Responsibilities

  • Teach inorganic chemistry lecture and laboratory.
  • Teaching duties will include rotation through inorganic chemistry, freshman general chemistry, and non-majors chemistry courses.
  • Develop an active research program involving undergraduate students.
  • Participate in departmental and university service by taking an active role in developing new curricula, advising and mentoring students, serving on departmental and university committees, assisting student groups on campus, and engaging in professional activity.
