About The Position

This is a part-time, temporary lecturer position for the Fall 2026 semester in Asian Studies at Honolulu Community College. It is part of a lecturer candidate pool, is non-tenurial, and assignments are made as needed, contingent upon funding, satisfactory performance, and staffing requirements. The role involves teaching assigned courses, maintaining office hours, providing instruction to meet student learning objectives, preparing course materials, and working with the discipline coordinator or division chairperson. Commitment to community college principles is essential. Teaching assignments may include evenings, weekends, on-campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools), and/or distance learning via the internet. This is not a remote position. Specific teaching fields may have openings only for military base or internet-taught courses. A Department of Defense security clearance will be required for teaching on military bases, and background checks will be required for teaching Early College courses for DOE schools.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Asian Studies.
  • Graduate and undergraduate transcript(s) from a regionally accredited institution of higher education showing degree(s) and relevant coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  • Maintain at least one office hour per week for each class taught.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to meet student learning objectives.
  • Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress.
  • Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  • Student and peer evaluations and self-assessment of teaching effectiveness are required.
  • Commitment to community college principles and philosophy is essential.
  • Must be available for evening and weekend teaching assignments, teaching on campus, off-campus at military bases, secondary education sites (high schools) and/or distance learning assignments for courses taught via the internet.
