About The Position

The Leather & Vinyl Sander sands leather and vinyl tool handles to create proper contours and appearance while meeting established production rates. This is a second-shift position scheduled Monday through Friday, 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Requirements

• One to three months of related experience or on-the-job training.
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, and use arms and hands to reach, finger, handle, or feel, and to talk and hear for eight hours or more per day.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch, and to communicate effectively.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• Close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus for work.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple written and verbal instructions, including safety, operating, and maintenance instructions.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic with whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
• Ability to address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Ability to learn, adapt, pay attention to detail, show initiative and judgment, demonstrate motivational fit, cooperate with a team, and meet work standards.
• Must wear hearing protection, safety glasses, and foot protection.

Responsibilities

• Sand excess leather from tool handles using a belt sander or grinding wheel to achieve the proper contour and appearance.
• Inspect finished tool handles for quality and reject defective handles.
• Replace and balance grinding wheels and belts, and adjust their tension as needed.
• Transport tools to and from appropriate staging areas.
• Complete routing sheets and enter data in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
