Lead Yaw System Mechanical Design Engineer-1

GE Vernova
•$98,400 - $164,000

About The Position

Join GE Vernova’s Wind Global Machine Head Yaw subsystem team, with hardware ownership spanning design, analysis, supplier qualification, testing, and validation of mechanical rotating components for utility-scale wind turbines. The role primarily supports hydraulic and passive mechanical braking systems throughout their lifecycle, from conceptual and detailed design through development, testing, qualification, manufacturing, and installed-fleet support. The engineer drives technical excellence and continuous improvement in component design, analysis, cost, and reliability. The role includes leading new product introductions, technology integration, and field issue resolution, with a strong emphasis on quality and reliability verified through physical testing. It also involves cross-functional collaboration with quality, manufacturing, sourcing, suppliers, field support, and other teams; technical root-cause analysis and corrective action; and efforts to improve cost, product quality, and the strategic capabilities of yaw subsystem components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 8 years of mechanical analysis and design experience in industry.
  • Working knowledge of technical drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing.
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools such as Unigraphics or Siemens NX.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent communication, project management, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to lead global projects with team members across cultural boundaries.
  • Ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions.
  • Knowledge and execution of established problem-solving processes.
  • Strong desire and ability to drive improvement and change.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Working knowledge of Ansys or other finite element analysis tools.
  • Experience designing wind turbine yaw subsystem components, including yaw drives, yaw bearings, bolted joints, and hydraulic or mechanical yaw braking systems.
  • Experience with system design, including interface definition, system stiffness, DFMEA, and design for manufacturability, installation, and serviceability.
  • Proven track record collaborating with business product managers and suppliers or vendors to optimize component costs and influence purchasing strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Execute projects involving new product introduction, new technology integration, and field issue resolution, emphasizing quality and reliability verified through physical testing.
  • Design wind turbine yaw system components, including hydraulic pressure unit systems, yaw bearings, yaw drives, and yaw brakes, addressing component design, system interaction, and system reliability.
  • Own and incorporate lessons learned, best practices, and standardization into design documentation, including design practices, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Design and develop testing and validation plans to demonstrate component function and reliability.
  • Develop innovative design solutions that meet timing, product cost, and reliability targets.
  • Ensure the quality of new and revised drawings, bills of materials, and specifications in accordance with GE Vernova and industry processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with quality teams, manufacturing engineers, sourcing, suppliers, field support, and others to improve product quality and first-time yield.
  • Support manufacturing, sourcing, and field teams with issue resolution and timely corrective actions for design-related causes, including NCR, SDR, and PAC.
  • Conduct timely and complete technical root-cause analysis of field failures and identify design-related corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Identify and execute cost-saving ideas and strategies.
  • Introduce advanced technology, materials, manufacturing methods, and design tools or methods to advance yaw subsystem components.
