About The Position

Angell West is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician to lead their Avian and Exotics Team. The Avian Exotics (A/E) Lead Technician will collaborate with veterinarians and support staff to deliver excellent clinical and customer service. Responsibilities include providing technical support for A/E outpatient and in-patient procedures, assisting with case management of A/E animals, running anesthesia, and communicating with clients and referring veterinarians. The technician will also assist veterinarians in clinic, radiology, surgery, and other hospital areas. This role requires positive interaction with staff and clients, providing technical advice according to hospital policies, and possessing specific knowledge of A/E clinical tests, procedures, protocols, medical terminology, animal handling, anesthesia, and math skills. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for conveying clinical information. This position offers a unique opportunity to practice in a client-focused setting with support from the larger MSPCA-Angell Boston hospital, emphasizing client service, patient care, and work-life balance.

Requirements

  • Current Certified Veterinary Technician within the state of Massachusetts
  • Minimum of 5 years of Avian Exotics practice
  • Knowledge specific to A/E clinical tests, procedures, protocols, medical terminology, animal handling, anesthesia, and math skills
  • Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, veterinary specific clinical information regarding services to our clients and other hospital staff

Nice To Haves

  • Holding a VTS in Avian Exotics or on the VTS track

Responsibilities

  • Providing technical support in the examination room with A/E outpatient and in-patient procedures
  • Assisting with case management of A/E animals admitted to the hospital
  • Running anesthesia
  • Communications with clients and sometimes referring veterinarians
  • Assisting the veterinarian in clinic, radiology, surgery and in other areas of the hospital
  • Interacting with all staff members and clients in a positive and dynamic manner
  • Providing technical advice following hospital policies and procedures
