About The Position

Burlington Emergency & Veterinary Specialists is looking to add a Lead Ophthalmology Technician to their team. This role is for someone passionate about patient care, enjoys working in a specialty setting, and is energized by supporting both patients and people in a fast-paced hospital environment. It is a hands-on leadership role focused on ophthalmology patient care, workflow coordination, and supporting a strong, collaborative technician team. The Lead Technician will work closely with the ophthalmologist, hospital leadership, and technical staff, serving as a clinical resource and day-to-day support for the ophthalmology service. Requirements

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, or equivalent)
  • 3+ years of experience in a veterinary specialty hospital setting
  • Strong technical skills, including anesthesia monitoring, patient restraint, venipuncture, catheter placement, and surgical assistance
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to lead, coach, and support a diverse team
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced specialty environment
  • Comfortable handling client communication, including discussing treatment plans and addressing concerns
  • Proficiency with practice management systems and general computer skills
  • A team-first mindset with a focus on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Previous ophthalmology experience strongly preferred
  • Previous leadership, training, or supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Comfort with ophthalmology diagnostics, treatments, and patient handling preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced technical support for ophthalmology appointments, procedures, and treatments
  • Assist with ophthalmic diagnostics, treatments, and patient monitoring
  • Support the ophthalmologist with procedures, anesthesia support, and case flow throughout the day
  • Lead and support the ophthalmology technical team in a collaborative, accountable environment
  • Coordinate daily workflow for the service, helping to ensure efficiency and a high standard of patient care
  • Train, mentor, and onboard technical staff within the ophthalmology department
  • Serve as a resource to team members for specialty workflows, equipment use, and patient care standards
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and compliant medical records
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with clients regarding patient care, treatments, and discharge instructions
  • Assist in resolving client concerns with professionalism and empathy
  • Monitor inventory, specialty equipment, and treatment areas to ensure operational readiness
  • Partner with hospital leadership on scheduling, staffing support, and performance development
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, and team operations within the ophthalmology service
