About The Position
BluePearl Pet Hospital in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a skilled and motivated Licensed Veterinary Technician to come work alongside our board-certified ophthalmologist. As an Ophthalmology Veterinary Technician, you will help diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases in companion animals. Schedule: Weekdays, 4x10s Pay: $27.00 - $51.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool. Candidates with VTS credentialing are eligible for compensation commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
- Perform basic ophthalmic diagnostic tests (tear quantity, glaucoma testing, ulcer testing) and help hold patients for detailed ocular exam
- Perform advanced ophthalmic diagnostic testing (retinal electrical function, etc.)
- Set-up and assist with procedures and surgeries that restore comfort and vision ranging from outpatient procedures to basic and complex surgeries
- Outpatient procedures: diamond burr debridement (to stimulate corneal healing), CO2 laser (to remove eyelid margin masses)
- Surgical procedures including eyelid surgeries, cherry eye surgery, corneal grafts, cataract surgery, retinal surgery, glaucoma surgery
- For patients undergoing sedation or anesthesia, place IV catheters and fluids, administer drugs through various route, perform and monitor sedation/anesthesia (with advances skills including constant rate infusions, paralytics, ventilation, etc.)
- Help organize and maintain specialized ophthalmic equipment and supplies
- Be the frontline in educating clients on their pet’s ocular disease and care

- Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours.
- Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
